End mass incarceration contingent at the MLK Day of Action, Resistance, and Empowerment March

On January 19th, thousands will converge on the streets of Philadelphia to demand a living wage, a fully funded democratically controlled school system, and an end to police brutality. The systems that perpetuate racist police violence are the same systems that funnel poor people of color--and young black people in particular--into Pennsylvania’s prisons and jails. That’s why Decarcerate PA has endorsed the MLK D.A.R.E. march, and why we are calling for a “Contingent to end mass incarceration.” We will be meeting at Love park at 12:45 to pick up banners and signs, and then will have a feeder march to 440 N. Broad, where we will meet up with the big march.

Stand with Decarcerate PA and our allies to demand an end to prison expansion and an end to the racist policies and practices that keep those prisons full. Say no to a system that holds over 52,000 people in state prisons in PA at a cost of $2 billion annually. Join us to demand education and community reinvestment, not mass incarceration. Join us to say #BlackLivesMatter!
