This fall, the Coalition to Abolish Death By Incarceration (CADBI) is traveling to the State Capitol in Harrisburg to demand an end to Death By Incarceration in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania prisons hold over 5000 people serving life without parole. It is a sentence that condemns the recipient to die in prison--which is why we instead call it Death By Incarceration (DBI).
We believe that sentencing people to Death By Incarceration is a human rights violation and an affront to our collective humanity. It is also a sentence that disproportionately targets people of color, and costs the state millions of dollars that should be invested in building our communities up rather than tearing them apart. That’s why we’re working hard to pass a bill (HB135) that would create parole eligibility for those serving DBI.
But we need your help!
Join us at the Capitol in Harrisburg at 11:30am on October 25th for a rally and legislative visits to ask our legislators to support HB135.
COMING FROM PHILLY? We will be running free buses from Philadelphia, and will coordinate transportation from other location as our capacity allows.
For anyone who registers after October 18, we will try to accommodate as many people as we can, but we won’t be able to guarantee a seat. You can still click here to fill out the form to register on a "standby" basis, or call 267-606-0324 with any questions.
COMING FROM WESTERN PA? CADBI West will be running vans from Pittsburgh. You can sign up for a seat here.
Looking for other ways to help? We’re an all-volunteer campaign and we are raising money to cover the cost of the buses. You can make a donation here, or just help us spread the word by sharing the fundraising page with your networks.
Hope to see you in Harrisburg!
