LET’S KEEP THE PRESSURE ON by CALLING, WRITING, and/or TWEETING Seth Williams!
Week one (May 23rd - May 28th) Call Seth Williams at 215-686-8000! Not sure what to say? You can find a call script here.
Introduce yourself and ask to speak to District Attorney Seth Williams:
My name is _______________ and I am a member of the Coalition to Abolish Death By Incarceration (CADBI), is District Attorney Seth Williams available?
They will likely tell you he is not available. In this case, ask if you can leave a message for him or talk to his staff person who deals with juvenile life without parole re-sentencings. Once you’ve got them on the phone, introduce yourself and and share our demands:
I am calling on behalf of the 500 men and women who were sentenced to die in prison in Pennsylvania when they were children. In Miller v. Alabama, the U.S. Supreme Court made clear that it is unconstitutional to sentence children to mandatory life without parole (also known as death by incarceration).
Despite this ruling four years ago, your office has failed to act on behalf of these men and women who are being detained unlawfully. As a concerned community member, a taxpayer, and a registered voter, I am asking for a meaningful and swift resentencing process for these individuals.
I am asking for an end to juvenile life without parole and for transformative forms of justice that address the root causes of violence. I am asking that your office commit to not seeking to reinstate life without parole as a sentence for any of these 500 men and women.
If you want, you can also share your personal connection and/or stake in the issue. Remember your story & call matters!
POWER TO THE PEOPLE! Tell other friends and family members to call as well!
