Solitary Thinking

I would like to share a good quote that was shared with me by my comrade Omar Askia Ali. The saying goes, there are three kinds of people, those who make it happen, those who watch things happen and those who were never sure what was happening. Please bear with me as I elaborate on these three groups of people. The first group of people take initiative and responsibility by using their resources, knowledge and skills to solve problems and make it happen. The second group of people sit on the sideline and watch the first group use the same resources, knowledge, and skills they possess to make it happen. The third group of people are clueless to what is happening. Long story short, my ears are closer to myself than they are to you so I say this to myself foremost. Take initiative, pick up your pens, write letters with your ideas and input to unify yourselves with the young and older generations. Send your letters to family members, friends, churches, publications, such as progressive newspapers, magazines, radio deejays, artists, college students, lawyers, etc., etc. Keep writing, don’t stop. You may not get responses from everyone you write but you will get some. Constantly writing these letters reinforces your inner consciousness to solidify your internal change beyond mere words. Your focus is no longer immediate isolation; therefore your thinking is not controlled. Many individuals I have seen give up or break themselves know their history and were very politically conscious people. They had many applicable valid ideas to revitalize our communities. Their biggest problem was they never took the conversation and ideas outside of the isolated areas. They made absolutely no attempt to make contact with the outside. Soon they became bored with hearing only themselves and those around them began to view them as good conversationalists with no actions behind their words. Their thinking stayed contained within the isolated wall and soon isolation consumed them.

I would like to say “Thank You” to my comrade for sharing these jewels, this profound quote and I share these jewels and profound quote with the world straight from solitary (S.M.U.). Let our voices not be contained within these walls. Let our souls not be consumed by our isolation.

In solidarity,
