Protests Planned Against Prison Policies at Wolf Campaign Fundraiser
Protesters demand immediate repeal of restrictions on books, mail, visits
PHILADELPHIA (October 10, 2018) - Last month, Department of Corrections Secretary John Wetzel and Governor Tom Wolf rolled out some of the most punitive anti-prisoner policies in the country. These policies violate the rights of people in prison, restrict access to educational materials, and surveil and delay correspondence. They are costing PA taxpayers $15 million. And they are cutting off critical avenues of communication and support between Pennsylvanians on both sides of the prison walls.
What: Rally at Gov. Wolf’s campaign fundraiser to demand he repeal the new prison policies
Who: Decarcerate PA, Books Through Bars, Coalition to Abolish Death By Incarceration, Amistad Law Project, Human Rights Coalition, Youth Art & Self-empowerment Project, families and friends of people in PA prisons
When: 6pm to 8:30pm
Where: Outside Yards Brewing Company, 500 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia PA
Photo opportunity: Large props including over-sized book, letter and card wrapped in chains, banners, signs, messages from incarcerated people impacted by these policies.
